6/29/00 From Carson City Nevada (just East of   Tahoe) to Delta Utah

500 miles the hard way. Route 50 is called The Loneliest Road in America for a reason.  A bloody good reason. Ride 500 miles without a stop light, go for 12 hours and see maybe ten cars and you'll know solitude. No traffic noises, no voices, no wind, no bugs buzzing, and not even that gentle hum from electricity lines.  Spooky.

There are people that live out there. Every 50 miles or so you'll see a signpost pointing along a dirt road to a town that may or may not exist. Sometimes you'll see a small mobile home parked out in the desert. Tough to get the neighbors together for pinochle I'd imagine.
